THE MATCH
DESPITE a late score from Toby Hughes, North Wales Crusaders were unable to conquer Doncaster in the Betfred League One play-off final.
Crusaders had defied odds to reach the final having clinched the final play-off space with a sixth placed finish, and despite tasting defeat Forster's men can hold their heads high.
Following a tough opening period which saw both sides exchanges sets, it was the hosts who opened the scoring as Fonua crossed the line with 13 minutes gone.
Doncaster extended their lead with 22 minutes on the clock as Connor Robinson converted a penalty to give his side a 8-0 lead which they took into half-time.
The home side started the second half strongly, adding to their lead as McConnell crossed the whitewash to all but secure promotion.
However, Crusaders were not going to go down without a fight as Toby Hughes pulled one back with 70 minutes gone, but the comeback was quickly quashed as Doncaster responded just minutes later as Smeaton added his name to the scoresheet sending Doncaster to the Championship with a 18-6 victory.
